Video: Who Needs A Bottle Warmer When You Have A Torch?

Common sense seems to be a rare quality for modern man, but tempting fate too many times can have disastrous results. YouTube is filled with video clips of people tempting fate only to deal with the repercussions of their stupidity. One street-racing clip illustrates some bad behavior and some bad judgment that should scare the crap out of you. Street racing is not marked by good decisions; sure, everyone has done it at least once in their life but the combination of street racing and being too cheap and or lazy to install a bottle warmer is just asking for trouble.

For as long as affordable video cameras have been available, people have been using them to document their indiscretions and share them with the world, and here we have not only activity that could land the participants in jail, but one special moment that should make any nitrous racer with a sense of self preservation cringe – they whip out a BernzOMatic torch and proceed to warm the nitrous bottle in the back of the Camaro prior to racing another car.

While we love the Camaros and Corvette in this video, it’s all overshadowed by the sense that while the hammer falls on an empty chamber this time and nothing bad happens, that day is coming. It is obvious that these guys have something invested in their cars, but risking their own safety and their cars seems a little pointless. Everyone knows a neighbor’s cousin who has done this very thing countless times with no problems, but is the $100 savings really worth the risk, even if it’s rare that a bottle fails from abuse?

Street racing is always going to be around, and there are always going to be guys who defend it as safe because “we do it the right way.” It’s hard to make that argument here though as you watch that blue flame play across the nitrous bottle, and the flagger send the cars off down the stretch of two-lane interstate they’ve blocked off..
