It used to be that road-going test mules wore camo out in public to shield details from professional photographers, but nowadays a zebra-stripe car on the highway just makes it more likely to attract attention instead of avoiding it. All it takes is for someone who knows that all those crazy stripes, swirls, or other bulky coverings mean there is something special lurking underneath, and out comes the cell phone. But then again, maybe that’s the point. That is just what we have in this video we recently uncovered on YouTube. The user who posted the video refers to himself as “CTSVKINGWAGON” so it’s clear that he’s into GM performance cars, and would quickly recognize the distinctive Camaro.
The video opens on a big black SUV dominating the view, but occasionally we catch glimpses of the red camo-clad Camaro directly in front of it. Luckily, the person filming is patient and the SUV eventually turns to the right, giving us a full view of the rear of the ZL1. One of the first things we noted about the Camaro is that it seems to be sporting noticeably wider rear tires – very consistent with the 305’s that the ZL1 is reported to be outfitted with. Other than that, it’s hard to gain any other visual cues from the car. Apparently the camo did its job a little too well, and made it invisible to the driver of a Chevy mid-size sedan, who pulls out right in front of it towards the end of the video.
As the release of the production model ZL1 draws closer, sightings like this will start to become more and more frequent – so have your cell phones ready.
