Earlier this month, race fans and car manufacturers alike were excited when motorsports made its long-awaited return to Detroit’s Belle Isle. And lucky for Chevy enthusiasts, their favorite manufacturer fought hard on the track to pull out quite the win over the weekend with a one-two finish for the Auto Express Corvette Daytona Prototypes and a first-place finish for the Autohaus Motorsport Camaro GT.R. But not all the work that went into earning these teams their top positions was done by the drivers. Check out one of the amazing pit stops made by the Autohaus Camaro that kept it on track for its GT class win in the video above.
The win at the Chevrolet Grand-Am Detroit 200 was the first for the Autohaus team this season. After qualifying for a fourth-place starting position, drivers Jordon Taylor and Paul Edwards fought hard for their lead position in Saturday’s race. But winning a race isn’t just about mad driving skills. It’s also about flawless teamwork and the Autohaus crew showed exactly what they were capable of when it came to clockwork pit stops all race long.
We’ve all seen pit stops before and know how one little mistake in pit lane can ruin a team’s chances for victory. Well, Autohaus was definitely not risking it in Detroit, flying through this full pit stop and driver change in just thirty seconds. It’s track practices like this that make champions out of teams.
Unfortunately, last week’s EMCO Gears Classic race at Mid-Ohio didn’t go as well for Autohaus Motorsports. The team finished ninth overall in the GT class, a placement Autohaus has seen three times now this season. But there is still time for the team to move up the ranks.
This weekend, the Grand-Am Series takes a break, but will be back on the track next weekend for the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series 250. We can’t wait to see how the Autohaus Motorsports team does in their next race.
