Here’s a nasty one fished off the interwebs. Check out what’s left of this poor C3 Corvette. Miraculously, the driver survived.
God only knows what happen a few seconds before impact, but after colliding with a particularly unforgiving tree, the Vette’s engine and transmission were ejected from the engine bay and trans tunnel. The Turbo-Hydramtic turned into big wrecking ball and certainly added to the destruction of the car. Check it out right side up in a mud bog and the small-block engine face-down next to the road, converter still attached.
The driver-side portion of the transmissions bell housing remained mostly intact, almost as if the a bolt or two were missing or sheared off, while the passenger-side took the brunt of the damage. The brake booster and master cylinder shifts to dead center between the front axle, as a result of this horrific accident.
The entire fiberglass body of this C3 has been sheared off the frame, with the only identifying portion of the car remaining is the driver door and wheels, and might be the only parts that could be salvaged.
In the wake of such a devastating crash it’s fortunate no one was killed. Hey people! Know your car’s limits on the street and if you’re gonna get hammered, catch a cab. Yeesh.
