If you think Americans have the market cornered on wadding up Corvettes, think again. For this edition of Wrecked Vette Wednesday, we’re turning our attention across the Atlantic and into the Old Country; Ukraine, to be exact.
When it’s not a hotbed of global power plays and militaristic build-ups, the country has its fair share of roadway accidents. This one involved a 2008 convertible and a–correct us if we’re wrong, commenters–third-generation Toyota RAV4, and occurred in a town called Troeshina, which lies close to the country’s capital of Kiev.
Seeing as the original news report was written in Ukrainian, we had to run the text through Google Translate. To be expected was the English word jumble that often comes out the other side, but we were still able to decipher most of what it had to say.
Basically, the Corvette was booking it through this section of a street and coming up quick on the Toyota SUV to the front. The Vette’s driver was too slow to react and slammed on the brakes, even engaging the emergency brake to drop speed rapidly. It proved to be too little too late though, as he smacked right into the RAV4 and did a significant amount of damage to both vehicles.
As you can see, the RAV4 suffered an impacted bumper, but the Corvette was not so lucky. It managed to lose its hood, bumper, and right-side headlight, not to mention the likely injuries sustained to the engine’s accessory drive.
Not a great day for either party involved, to say the least. Here’s to hoping the repair bill reaches the deductible on the Corvette driver’s insurance!
