BRP Hot Rods is known for making LS and LT swaps easy and headache-free. The company builds its engine mount kits for a single, specific chassis rather than a one-size-fits-all design. That approach gives builders a precise fit. But it also means plenty of GM vehicles never got a dedicated kit. The new BRP Multi-Fit LS engine mount changes that. It uses the clamshell frame mount design GM introduced in the mid-’70s, which opens the door to LS swaps in classic GM cars and trucks that never had a bespoke option before.

Keith Maney of BRP Hot Rods says the company’s chassis-specific kits set the standard for fit and ease of installation. Building a kit this way takes time, though, and BRP simply cannot develop a dedicated LS engine mount kit for every vehicle GM enthusiasts want to convert.

What Is The Multi-Fit LS Engine Mount Kit?

LS swaps have become a popular way to bring modern power to older GM muscle cars and trucks. Demand for coverage on less-common platforms has grown alongside that trend. A chassis-specific kit still offers the most refined fit for a supported platform, but plenty of owners have waited for a solution that simply did not exist. The Multi-Fit LS engine mount kit gives BRP a way to reach that audience. It does this without abandoning the platform-specific approach that’s built the company’s stellar reputation for over two decades.

Why BRP Built A New LS Engine Mount Kit?

BRP owner Connie Brewer explains that every chassis-specific kit starts with extensive research. BRP begins by studying a platform in detail. The company reviews years of production and the dimensions of critical areas, including the engine compartment and transmission tunnel. BRP then acquires an actual vehicle for design and prototype work. Engineers install an LS or LT engine and a modern transmission into that vehicle. Then they continue to refine the mount design until the fit works.

While that process suits popular platforms well, it takes too much time to repeat for every GM vehicle on the road. The Multi-Fit LS engine mount kit takes a different approach. It targets the clamshell-style frame mount GM used broadly across its lineup starting in the mid-’70s. According to BRP, the kit fits A-body cars from 1973 to 1988, G-body cars from 1978 to 1988, and F-body cars from 1974 to 1992. It also fits B-body cars from 1971 to 1990, X-body cars from 1975 to 1979, and GM trucks from 1973 to 1998. Builders working on something like a vintage Impala can now move forward with confidence, and even some Cadillac models are now within reach.

How The Clamshell Design Shaped This LS Engine Mount Kit

BRP General Manager Jeff Georges says the clamshell mount brought welcome consistency to the GM lineup. Before the clamshell design, nearly every GM division mounted its engines and transmissions differently. Some platforms, including the A-body and F-body, shared certain characteristics, but most others used unique mounting solutions–particularly in full-size cars. GM’s shift to the clamshell mount finally created one consistent mounting method across most of its portfolio.

Even with that consistency, BRP found more than one version of the clamshell mount. The version used depended on the chassis. BRP head prototype engineer Nick Reed says the team designed the Multi-Fit mount around the most common clamshell configuration. The team also made accommodations for the second-most-common type. A couple of other variations existed, too, but their use was limited enough that adapting the mount for them would have compromised the overall design.

Adjustable Mounting Solves A Second Fitment Problem

Fitting the clamshell solved only part of the puzzle. Reed notes that the clamshell itself remained fairly consistent across chassis. But the mount location on the engine crossmember varied depending on which engine GM originally installed. BRP built the Multi-Fit LS engine mount kit with that variation in mind. Multiple bolt holes lets builders move the mount forward or rearward on the block. This adjustment does not sacrifice strength. Builders can position the LS engine correctly for their specific application. That adjustability affects oil pan clearance, accessory drive fit, and room for exhaust manifolds or headers.

This flexibility carries real value on the workbench since builders can shift the mount position along the block. That means they can dial in engine placement for their specific accessory drive and headers instead of fighting a fixed mounting point.

Testing Confirms The LS Engine Mount Kit Works Across Platforms

Georges says BRP tested the Multi-Fit mount across a wide range of chassis that use the GM clamshell design. The team installed an LS engine with an off-the-shelf oil pan in nearly every case. An off-the-shelf header worked in many instances as well. BRP has not tested every possible platform, but so far the results look strong. In short, the Multi-Fit LS engine mount kit opens up several platforms to LS swaps that once required custom fabrication.

What Comes With The Multi-Fit LS Engine Mount Kit?

Every Multi-Fit LS engine mount kit includes a pair of mounts and the hardware builders need for installation. BRP builds the mounts from mild steel and finishes them with a powder coat for corrosion resistance, which is the same combination the company uses on its chassis-specific kits. The kit works alongside Sure-Fit-style crossmember setups and also clears mid-length exhaust headers. That compatibility keeps installation straightforward for anyone already familiar with a typical LS swap. BRP manufactures every component in the United States, maintaining this approach across its full product line.

Built To The Same Standards As BRP’s Chassis-Specific Kits

The Multi-Fit LS engine mount kit covers more ground than a typical BRP kit. Even so, BRP applied the same research, design, and testing process it uses for chassis-specific products. That consistency explains why the Multi-Fit LS engine mount kit carries the same fit and finish expectations as the company’s more specialized offerings. It covers a much wider range of vehicles, but it does not cut corners to get there.

BRP builds the kit from high-quality, American-sourced materials. That gives builders a durable solution for mounting an LS engine into a platform without a dedicated kit. Extending BRP’s chassis-specific philosophy to a broader, multi-platform product was not a small step. BRP’s engineering team treated the Multi-Fit LS engine mount kit with the same scrutiny it applies to any dedicated kit.

Which Builders Benefit Most From This LS Engine Mount Kit?

Builders working with A-body, B-body, F-body, G-body, or X-body GM platforms stand to benefit the most from BRP’s Multi-Fit LS engine mount kit. The hardware will also help restorers of GM trucks built through the late 1990s. If you’ve researched an LS swap on one of these platforms and found no dedicated kit, you now have a legitimate starting point. The Multi-Fit LS engine mount kit does not eliminate every variable in a swap. Exhaust routing, transmission selection, and accessory placement still depend on the specific vehicle. But this kit now solves the mounting puzzle that has stopped many projects before they even started.

Enthusiasts who have waited to swap an LS engine into a GM platform without a bespoke option now have a proven path forward. This kit will not replace BRP’s chassis-specific kits for builders working on well-supported platforms, but it gives owners of less common GM vehicles a legitimate way to join the LS swap community without reinventing the mounting system from scratch.
