2015-cadillac-ats-coupe-5Last week in Detroit, Cadillac setup shop across from the Mercedes booth to unveil the Cadillac ATS Coupe, a car everyone expected and few were disappointed with. Sure, it retains its sedan proportions, but it looks a lot sleeker thanks to a redesigned roof and rear end. Rumor has it that Cadillac is also considering a wagon and convertible option as well, but more exciting is what inside sources have to say about what might go under the hood.

2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport Twin Turbo; Santa Barbara, California; September 2014According to Motor Trend’s well-placed spies, a proposed Cadillac ATS-V could get a 425 horsepower twin-turbo V6, very likely the same one shoved under the hood of the Cadillac CTS Vsport.

Note that the ATS-V and V-sport vehicles are decidedly different in GM’s eyes, with Cadillac apparently planning to add even more performance to the CTS line. Meanwhile though, a hot-tuned version of the 3.6 liter twin-turbo V6 that debuted in the 2014 Cadillac CTS might find its way into the ATS, and it should be available with a seven-speed manual transmission.

As if that’s not enough, a proposed Cadillac ATS-V+ would get a V8 engine, possibly the same supercharged LT4 engine that also debuted last week under the hood of the 2015 Corvette Z06. Apparently this leaves room for a twin-turbo version of the Corvette LT1 to go into the hottest version of the Cadillac CTS-V.

Get all of that? Sounds like Cadillac’s performance engineers went a little overboard, but we’re not complaining. More power to ‘em, and us!
