Video: Alex Taylor’s Twin-Turbo 1968 Camaro Gets Moving Pretty Quick

In 2013, Alex Taylor took a week off of high school to compete in Drag Week with her ’68 Camaro, an event where drivers put their competitive vehicles to the test at five different drag strips in five states, over five days. They must all be driven from track to track under their own power with no support vehicles allowed.

Alex Taylor competed in 2013 with a naturally-aspirated setup in her Camaro and ran a best time of 11.78 in the quarter mile. In 2014, her and her dad upped the ante with a built 6-liter LS variant with twin BorgWarner turbochargers and Tial wastegates. They’re using the same 4L80 as the 2013 setup, but with a trans brake this time around. At the top end, the car makes 19-pounds of boost, but there are no power numbers yet as they didn’t get the car on the dyno before the event. Taylor claims that the car did, in fact, gain 30 MPH from the 1,000 foot marker to the beams, which is a great improvement over last year.

Recently, Taylor bested her previous record time of 11.78 and ran a 9.06 at 154 MPH at Tulsa Raceway Park. We noticed that she raced her father’s Ford Ranchero in the video and scored the win by almost three tenths of a second. Now, that’s impressive! This car isn’t only for competing though. Taylor drives this thing daily to school and everywhere else that she needs to go. How cool is that?
