While in the midst of doing the late Sunday night Craigslist rummage, we stumbled upon something that sent a chill down our spine. What we found were pictures of a place of destruction and automotive decay could only exist in our worst nightmares. The posting was titled “1982-2001 Camaro & Firebird Parts” and inside we read the ad which claimed, “Over 300 82-02 F-Bodies.” Instantly we were intrigued, so we followed a link to their Facebook page…
What we found was a giant F-Body only salvage yard, called Camaro & Firebird Motorsports that is located in Searcy, Arkansas, just 42 miles north of Little Rock. We witnessed an array of terrifying photos of smashed up F-bodies and daily status updates concerning what kind of parts they’ve pulled that day and how much you can scoop them up for. They also post up photos of whole cars for sale, parts cars, and gut wrenching photos of what’s left of the F-bodies after they’ve been stripped.
Once a car makes it’s way to Camaro & Firebird Motorsports, typically it will be parted down to the frame. Wheels, tires, engines, transmission, interior, convertible tops, t-tops, light assemblies, door panels, rear ends, window motors, hoods, clutches- all of it! While it’s a great place to find that one small part you’re missing and can’t get anywhere, we couldn’t help but shed just a few tears for all of the F-bodies that will never feel the rush of the wind across their T-tops again.
May they rest in peace….or “pieces” as the case may be…
