The latest information on Chevrolet’s awesome 2027 Corvette Grand Sport involves a subject that is near and dear to the hearts of LSX readers around the world: a manual transmission. Yes, apparently Tremec has created a 6-speed transaxle that fits the eighth-generation Corvette. Yes, Chevrolet knows about that program, and yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus!
According to General Motors brass, qualified buyers will indeed have the chance to purchase the newest Corvette Grand Sport with the option of a manual transaxle. While market research shows that enthusiasts are still interested in ‘row-it-youself’ gearboxes, actual demand at the dealership level remains light. For that reason, only a small percentage of C8 Grand Sports will be optioned with the package, and buyers will be thoroughly, well… Vetted.
We heard our fans, loud and clear. – B.G. Warner, Program Director, Vetted
Vetted: RPO Z53
When asked about Vetted, Program Director B.G. Warner said, “We heard our fans loud and clear. But there has to be a business case, right? Since owning one of these special Grand Sports is a privilege, we’re going to empower our most loyal and qualified buyers.”
Enter RPO Z53, or as Chevy insiders jokingly call it, the Ferrari code. Like Ferrari, Chevrolet will begin screening potential buyers based on a wide range of qualifications. To attain a Z53 Grand Sport, potential buyers will be evaluated on former purchases, brand loyalty, and driving ability. The brand views this as an opportunity to not only boost the exclusivity of the Grand Sport but also boost the clout of potential owners. The ultimate goal is to continue to elevate the Corvette brand, which, let’s face it, pretty much whips Ferrari everywhere it counts, anyway.

Passing The Test
To be considered for a manual C8 Grand Sport, potential buyers must first contact their favorite Chevrolet dealer. The dealer will review the interested party’s previous automotive purchases and notify them if they qualify for the next step. That next step involves a comprehensive brand loyalty quiz. The quiz can be taken online at the interested party’s convenience. Once a concrete loyalty score is established, the fun truly begins!
The dealership will schedule a time for the potential buyer to participate in an actual driving test, which will be performed in a C7 Corvette or sixth-gen Camaro (PLEASE NOTE: white New Balances are required). The first part of the driving test will measure how long it takes the potential buyer to stomp the clutch and create glorious LT revs to drown out boring car show discussion about lowly Challengers and Mustangs. The second part of the test will judge potential buyers on how well they navigate a tightly packed group of ten Corvette show cars on the way to both parking their ride and setting up their display. The final part of the driving test will judge how well potential buyers can navigate an autocross while keeping a crisp window sticker precisely centered on the car’s dashboard.

If you’re one of the few who still want to row your own gears in a mid-engine Corvette, you’re probably the same kind of person who argues about cam specs at dinner, knows exactly why 243 heads matter, and has strong opinions about tire pressure before coffee. In other words, you’ve earned it. Sure, the process might sound a little over the top, but it’s also kind of perfect. Because let’s be honest, if Chevrolet is only going to build a handful of manual 2027 Corvette Grand Sports, they might as well make sure the cars end up in the hands of people who actually get it. Better start brushing up on your Corvette trivia, because the last thing you want to do is fail the test and end up in a paddle-shift car explaining to your buddies how “it’s actually faster this way.”
Which, of course, wouldn’t be nearly as bad as listening to your buddies explain to you that none of this is actually real. Happy April Fools’ Day from LSX Magazine!
