What is the result of a build when an enthusiast removes the ball-and-chains of limitations? Apparently, perfection is a lifted, off road capable LS2-powered 1990 Ford Crown Victoria LTD in the eyes of Jon Baker, the owner of such a vehicle. He and his grandma sedan were in attendance at last month’s Holley LS Fest West in Las Vegas, Nevada, and his Blue Oval land-yacht was definitely a showstopper in the desert heat.
Jon says he’s constantly questioned as to why he would build such a car in the first place, though. His response? “It started with a bunch of buddies drinking beer and going out in the desert in grandma’s car, and it snowballed into a racecar.”
Jon says the car is powered by a stroked LS2 V8 (from 364ci to 408ci), which makes use of LS3 cylinder heads, a custom ground camshaft and a throttle body from Holley. On 91 octane pump gas, he says the 408ci LS is good for more than 600 horsepower at the crank; but when all of that horsepower is lost in 33-inch off road tires, a TH400 automatic transmission and a Currie Enterprises 9-inch rearend, you’re left with around 405 horsepower at the rear wheels on the dyno.
All things considered, 405 rear-wheel horsepower from a four door sedan (which probably weighs nearly three tons now) on 33-inch tires and all of that suspension travel makes for one heck of a ride, thanks to NA LS power, of course.
