2016-02-02_02-24-15This year’s 12 Hours of Sebring holds quite a bit of nostalgia for America’s sports car. In 1956, five Corvettes entered this defining race–one of which came out with a class victory and placed 9th overall. 60 years have now passed since this race, which simultaneously marked the car’s debut in motorsports and its first competitive victory.

Over those 60 years, the Corvette has accrued almost 100 victories across the globe– with 27 at the 12 Hours of Sebring itself, and nine of those with Corvette Racing. Last year, Corvette Racing and the C7.Rs became the first in 15 years to claim a Triple Crown season, consisting of victories at the Rolex 24, 12 Hours of Sebring, and 24 Hours of Le Mans; they are currently defending their GTLM class championship.

20953052326_ca5bf656f8_bThe four-day Sebring event kicked off this past Wednesday, with practice runs and qualifying events over the three days so far. Tomorrow the 12 Hours will officially take place, and Corvette Racing’s pair of C7.Rs will be fighting for their second-consecutive triple crown win.

It’ll be awfully hard for Corvette Racing to top their last performance at the Rolex 24 Hours, with the absolutely stunning 1-2 victory, but nonetheless we expect great things from the incredible team. The same pairing of drivers from the Rolex 24 hours will be at the helm of the Sebring race–with Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Marcel Fässler in the No. 4 Corvette and Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller in the No. 3 car.

The C7.Rs truly swept the field in the first leg, and we’re looking forward to watching as they dominate Sebring tomorrow and the 24 Hours of Le Mans after that.
