camaro-kid-1We don’t know about you, but some of the writers here had less-than-perfect attendance when it came to high school. We guess that is why we are writing about cool cars, instead of owning them. Yet save for the educational value of always attending class, perfect attendance never seemed like something to aim for.

We may have to readjust our stance, however, after reading this story from the Douglas County Sentinel. The Sentinel reports that Jenna Gossett, who had not missed a day of class for nine years straight, was the unlikely winner of $20,000 towards a brand new Chevy car. Smart girl that she is, Jenna chose a new Chevy Camaro.

Jenna’s prize was part of Chevrolet’s “Drive for Perfection” campaign that encourages high school seniors to try and maintain perfect attendance. The program makes all students who have at least a 98% attendance record eligible to win $20,000 towards a new Chevy of their choice. Jenna was up against 276 students from the Atlanta area, many of whom left with prizes like $100 gift cards or HP laptops.

But the big prize was the car, and 10 students were chosen from the 276 as finalists for the drawing. Each student picked a key and tried to open a Chevy Cruze on stage. Jenna was the the seventh one to go, and when she turned the key the car beeped, letting her know she had won. While she test drove both the Chevy Cruze and Sonic, she knew she wanted the Camaro. Her parents put up the extra $7,000 over the prize money, and now Jenna will be the coolest kid on campus when she attends college in the fall. For once, perfect attendance pays off.
