Follow Up: Dealership Buys Back Camaro that Mechanics Abused

William Clark, the owner of this Camaro SS, hid a voice recorder in the car before sending it in for service. The tire-squealing abuse he recorded struck a nerve with thousands across the country.

Back at the beginning of October, we showed you a video that didn’t bode well for the often shaky relationships between performance enthusiasts and their car dealerships. As you’ll remember, William Clark of Easley, South Carolina, captured a very condemning audio recording of service techs from Best Chevrolet driving his Camaro SS in an abusive manner, and posted the recording on YouTube.

Clark’s story gained a great deal of attention, and led to an owner vs. dealership stand off as each party claimed to have been wronged by the other. Clark’s argument is obvious, but Best’s lawyers were claiming that the recording was “misleadingly edited.”

Now, according to a report on Motoramic, Clark and Best Chevrolet have finally reached an agreement on what should be done about the issue. Clark has agreed to permanently remove the audio from YouTube and Best Chevrolet has bought back the mistreated Camaro SS, and they will be auctioning it off for charity. Both Clark and Best Chevrolet have generously agreed to donate their proceeds from the sale of the Camaro to the March of Dimes.

It’s refreshing to see folks doing the right thing when given the chance, but it’s still too bad that the “right thing” couldn’t have been done in the first place. However, in the end, all’s well that ends well.
