The venerable Pontiac Fiero has long been a favorite among engine swappers and kit car creators alike, and is no stranger to wildly invasive modifications. So it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to find out that this 1988 Fiero Formula we found on Craigslist has been outfitted with an LS1.
The mid-engined, rear wheel drive, two-seater sport coupe was handed over to the Fiero swap experts at V-8 Archie, out of Machesney Park, Illinois to perform the LS1 swap. The owner of the V-8 Archie shop, Mr. C. Archambault, is the first known person to have swapped a V8 into a Fiero, having managed to install a 327 out of a first gen Camaro in the mid 1980’s, and has performed V8 swaps personally on over 400 Fieros.

The V-8 Archie kits allow you to swap in almost any small block Chevy V8 into a Fiero using a Pontiac G6 transmission. In the Cragislist ad, the owner says, “This is a clean swap. Everything looks as it should and all of the original gauges, A/C etc all work as they should. Without lifting the hood, you would never know what is hiding under there.” He has the LS1 Fiero listed for $15,000, but claims to have over $20,000 invested in the car, and is looking to possibly trade it for a Jeep.
What do you think? Could this quiet, unassuming little Fiero be the ultimate LS1 swapped sleeper?
