The final races of the Swedish Camaro Cup were held this past weekend at Mortorp Park Raceway, in Mantorp, Sweden, and a champion for the 2011 season has been crowned. Thed Bjork came into the race needing to earn 10 points to gain the title, meaning he would need to place at least 11th in one of the two races. Sounds pretty easy right? Well, as Bjork puts it on his website, “No, everything can happen and it almost did. In the qualifying on Friday I was third and we were almost done driving when we decided to try one more lap to get a better time. Just in this last lap the differential broke! This would have been a disaster if it had happen in the first race! Instead my mechanics worked hard and the car was in top condition for Saturday’s races.”
Bjork played it as safe as possible in the first race, just trying to avoid the type of massive mash-up that occurred in this video from earlier in the season (great video – the #77 Car seems to have plans to finish the race with his hood over the windshield).

Bjork started the race in 3rd position in his No. 43 Camaro, and finished in 5th place, easily earning him enough points to claim the title. After the race, Bjork celebrated in style with a little tire smoke for the crowd, as you can see from this YouTube video.
…Seriously America, we need a Camaro Cup of our own.
