Walking through the Design Engineering (DEI) booth at PRI 2025 felt like a masterclass in solving annoying fabrication problems. You go in looking for exhaust wrap, but you leave realizing you need five other things. The piece that really grabbed our attention this year was the Adapt-A-Shield. It’s a new type of heat barrier that Eric Bond, one of DEI’s tech experts, described as a multi-purpose fix for just about any heat issue you encounter on a build.

The Adapt-A-Shield might look like standard aluminum shielding, but the behavior is completely unique. It is designed to be crushed, folded, and molded. You can literally shape it around a starter motor, a master cylinder, or a fuel line, and it stays put without needing high-temp adhesive or zip ties. Bond mentioned he keeps finding new places to use it on his own race car because it is so forgiving. If you are in a jam at the track, you can even tear it by hand to fit a specific spot. It’s the kind of product that belongs in every track box because it solves those unexpected clearance issues that pop up after a few hard laps.

DEI didn’t stop there. They also fixed the biggest headache with stainless steel locking ties. The new LokJaw Ties use a wave design to create tension, meaning you can get them incredibly tight without needing that expensive specialized tool. Just pull and go.

They also showed off the new Boom Mat Acoustic Felt, which provides heat and sound insulation with a finished felt top layer—perfect for drag-and-drive interiors where you want protection but don’t want to install a full custom upholstery job. From transmission pan shields to specialized engine covers, DEI’s 2025 lineup is all about practical, easy-to-use solutions that keep the heat out and the noise down.
