PRI 2025: ProCharger P-1R Pushes Street Cars To 1,250 Horsepower

Street cars making 1,000 horsepower are becoming the new normal. It sounds crazy to say, but for shops and manufacturers, it’s just the reality of the market. ProCharger understands this shift better than anyone, and at PRI 2025, they unveiled their latest answer to the four-digit demand: the P-1R. This new centrifugal supercharger builds on the massive success of the P-1X but is engineered to push even further without forcing you to cut up your car or deal with a race-only setup.

Kyle Fickler, ProCharger’s Director of Business Development, was clear about the goal. They needed a blower that could handle the request for 1,000-plus horsepower while remaining civilized enough for daily driving. The P-1R uses their quietest gearbox option, meaning you don’t have that overwhelming gear whine that usually gives away a high-horsepower build. It retains the compact 9.75-inch volute diameter of the standard P-series, so it fits in the same tight engine bays, but the internals tell a different story. The aero package has been completely revised with a larger inlet and a modified outlet to move significantly more air.

The numbers are impressive. ProCharger rates the P-1R at 1,250 crankshaft horsepower with a maximum boost ceiling of 36 psi. That is a serious step up from the P-1X, which already proved it could send over 1,000 horses to the tires.

For builders, this unit is the sweet spot. It offers the packaging convenience of a street blower with the output potential of a race unit. You get the efficiency to run cool on the highway and the airflow to dominate the dyno. It is designed for the guy who wants to drive his car to work, pick up groceries, and then go run a number at the track that used to require a trailer. With the LS and LT platforms continuing to evolve, the P-1R looks like the perfect partner for the next generation of street sweepers.
