The year 2002 marked the end of an era for American muscle cars. It was the last year of production for the fourth-generation Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, an iconic model that debuted 55 years ago. Among the final batch of Firebirds, there was a special breed, the Trans Am convertible. Only 1,500 of these cars were made, making them highly sought-after by collectors and enthusiasts. One of these rare birds is currently up for auction on Bring a Trailer, and it could be yours if you act fast.

The 17-inch polished five-spoke aluminum mags are wrapped in older Firestone Firehawk tires. Braking is via power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes with ABS. This T/A is equipped with SLP-sourced suspension components and an optional traction control system.
This SLP version is finished in Bright Red with a black soft top and a black leather interior. It is powered by a 5.7-liter LS1 V8 connected to a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car also features a Ram Air hood, a rear spoiler, 17-inch chrome wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, and a Monsoon sound system.

The 5.7-liter V8 was rated at 345 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque in SLP trim and includes an SLP Blackwing intake lid, which is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.
This old warbird has been well-maintained by its current owner, who acquired it in 2018. It has a clean Carfax report and a clear California title. The odometer shows approx 10k miles, which is believed to be original. The car comes with the original window sticker, owner’s manuals, service records, and two sets of keys.
Little did we know that when the last Trans Am rolled off the assembly line, it would be the last true Pontiac car built. Yeah, the Grand Am was available in 2010 when it was all over, but the last Tin Indian to roll off the line was a Vibe, aka a Toyota. The Pontiac G8 was built in Australia and while cool, it just wasn’t the same.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 155-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,000-rpm redline along with gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 10k miles.
The auction ends on January 6, 2024, and the current bid is $18,000. This is a great opportunity to own a piece of American automotive history, as well as a fun and fast convertible that can turn heads on the road.
