Corvette Owner Receives Official Timing Receipt From State Police

A New Hampshire (we assume) resident will have a new milestone to proudly hang on their refrigerator door, thanks to the New Hampshire State Police. The operator of the high-winged C7 Corvette (possibly ZR1) was clocked at 150 miles per hour by Sergeant Johnston of the New Hampshire State Police on May 27, 2021. Of course, the trooper sought to hold a conversation with the driver and explain to them all of the downsides of doing such a reckless deed on public highways. There was also a short photo session, but we can see why the officer chose his line of duty instead of a photographer.

Let us go on record to say that driving at such speeds is dangerous. Don’t do it. That said, and if we’re totally honest, many of us have done this very thing. Does it excuse the driver from their recent lack of judgment— no. What it did, was highlight the depth of their lack of judgment. You see, they not only took a high-powered Corvette and flogged it on the highway, but they also did it knowing that their license was already suspended! The NHSP Facebook post didn’t mention why the license was suspended, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it was speeding.

As with many such posts on social media, public opinion plays into the comments section and you’ll see as many “he should’ve…” on one side of the fence, as well as others who wished the car crushed. Thank God for our legal system, and this driver will have his day in court, even though the question likely isn’t whether they were guilty or not.

Of course, this post from the NHSP helps to drive home (pun intended) the fact that the highways this past Memorial Day weekend would see recent record levels, and drivers should practice safe driving. Of course, they should—EVERY weekend and weekday for that matter.

How ironic is it, that on the weekend we celebrate those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, we see glaring examples of the phrase, “Personal freedom requires personal responsibility?” Many will argue the driver was using their head by not doing such things on a crowded highway. Doing so on suspended license questions their judgment from the start, let alone not knowing why they lost it in the first place.

Thankfully, we find ourselves in a time where we can enjoy cars with horsepower numbers beyond what many thought possible just years before. BUT, just like fireworks when we celebrate our Nation’s independence, we need to take responsibility for our actions and enjoy them safely – for us, as well as others. This makes a great case for enjoying our cars at track days or drag strips whenever possible. Even autocrossing can give both car and driver a weekend workout they won’t soon forget.

Working our cars to their fullest on track is definitely the safest way to do it. And we’re sure that the time slips you get from the track won’t cost you NEARLY as much as doing a similar thing on the pubic roadways!
