There’s no question that the Cadillac CTS-V is a champ of a car and in station wagon form, it offers an extra degree of utility that can be cool, in an Andy Warhol sort of way. By the way, we also recognize and accept that different cultures have different values and priorities, so when something appears to be a bit strange, we’re always willing to cut more than a little slack.
The pictures here come from the United Arab Emirates, where local road race competitor, Omran Al Owais, wants to do this to his personal CTS-V wagon. Now, we’re not rushing in to judge the suitability of the idea, but Al Owais by his own admission, acknowledges that he’s on the edge of Emerati sensibilities as well.
He recently told Crank & Piston, “A typical Emirati thinks a wagon is as cool as a chauffeur driving an old smelly Camry Wagon with trunk full of fish baskets.”
Both Al Owais and his brother imported CTS-V wagons for their personal use. In an ambitious plan, they intend to drive the haulers from Dubai to the Nurburgring and, once back home, convert one of the cars to their idea here, shown as Photoshop renderings.
On one hand, there could be some technical merit in using the wagon version for competition. The heavier body has added almost all of the weight at the rear end, which would help getting power to the ground. On the other hand, Cadillac Racing doesn’t seem to have a problem with this, using the coupe version of the car. This might be one to keep an eye out for, but we’ll pass on the fish baskets.
