Deatschwerks New DW440 In-Tank Brushless Fuel Pump

In the past, fuel delivery never seemed to be a problem. As fuels such as E85 have gained in popularity, a shift happened. Street cars started producing more and more power and needed a fuel system that could meet the demands of high horsepower. The problem here is you need a high-flow unit that is reliable yet compact. Some have ventured into using two and even three fuel pumps in the factory tanks to fit their fuel demands. While this method works, it can cause a mess with the wiring, additional voltage, and plumbing depending on the system of choice.

Brushless fuel pumps are the latest technology to hit the market and offer a simple solution for enthusiast needing more. One company that is always on the cutting edge of fuel delivery is Deatschwerks (DW). The company recently released the DW440 brushless pump system that is designed to optimize delivery in OE pump modules. The new brushless pump offers increased flow, better durability, and higher fuel compatibility than the traditional brushed DC fuel pumps.

This unique product from DW did come with some design challenges. Most brushless fuel pumps that are available are limited to either in-line pumps or submersible pumps that are too big for OE modules. According to DW, “the new DW440 is the first turbine-impeller brushless pump system designed for fitment into OE pump modules. The DW440 brings brushless pump technology into the tank by providing several unique features.”

The DW440 unit measures just 4-inches from the inlet to outlet, which is 2-inches shorter than the competition. These brushless pump kits include a bulkhead harness that allows pass-thru of the 4-wire system via a small 10mm hole, which can easily be used on an OE module top-hat. If it’s flow you want, the DW400 will not disappoint. With a standard battery voltage of 13.8, the brushless pump will flow 440-liters per hour. This is enough volume at 40psi to support 1,000 horsepower on gasoline and 750 horsepower on E85. If you are looking for more volume, all that is needed is the DW 40-amp controller that will take the pump to new levels. At 20-volts, the DW440 will crank out an impressive 620LPH.

Three different controller options are available to maximize compatibility with your fuel system, including single speed, dual speed, or Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) compatible.

C101 is a single speed controller that allows you to operate your DW440 in a simple 100-percent duty cycle “constant on” just as you would a standard brushed pump.

C102 is a dual-speed controller that allows you to operate the DW440 at a low duty cycle during normal driving conditions and full duty cycle during high load conditions.

C103 is a PWM modulated controller that allows your DW440 to be fully controlled by your existing OE or aftermarket fuel pump control modules PWM signal.
