Option packages and color choices are subject to an individual tastes, but there are always popular interior and exterior color combinations that seem to dominate the market. The guys over at Camaro5 have been digging through the fifth-generation Camaro database to determine the most popular combinations, creating an interesting analysis of what the most popular colors, engines, transmissions, and options have been so far.
Despite the obvious enthusiast push to purchase the 2010 SS cars, the V-6 models have outsold the V-8’s by a considerable margin so far. The majority of the SS models were purchased in the 2010 model year; sales of the SS models have slowed in the 2011 model year. This does seem to make some sense due to the initial demand in 2010 for the Camaro’s return to the market in combination with brand loyalty and pure lust for the historic name. However, the number of V-6 cars produced and sold has increased for the 2011 model year.
Another trend discovered by the Camaro5 researchers was the decline in number of cars equipped with a manual transmission; it seems as though the autos have taken over. Perhaps the trend toward the automatic trans and V-6 may have something to do with the present economic conditions and rising fuel costs. This trend toward automatic transmissions in both the V-6 and V-8 cars stays the same in both the 2010 and 2011 models.
Yet another trend that remains the unchanged across the fifth generation cars is the popularity of black exterior color and interior color. The inferno orange and grey options are still available, but are not as popular as the black; however, the beige interior choice remains the least commonly ordered color. If owning an uncommon Camaro is your goal then consider ordering a V-8 version with a manual transmission and beige interior.
