We were on hand in March when GM pulled the covers off of the next-generation 2014 Cadillac CTS, and we think the General hit a home run with that design. While the redesign wasn’t a radical re-envisioning of the CTS, it was enough to move it upmarket as a more mature, refined sedan. That said, it will still offer plenty of oomph from a 420 horsepower twin-turbo V6 for those seeking a quicker commute.
And as usual, GM is planning to roll the first 2014 Cadillac CTS off of the assembly line and onto the auction block. The first 2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport will be auctioned off for charity, with the money benefiting the SAE Foundation to help STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) college applicants.
The new turbocharged LF3 V6 engine is at the heart of the 2014 CTS Vsport, which also reveals a new naming structure for the next-gen sedan. While 420 horsepower certainly is a healthy amount, it is nowhere near the 556 of the current Cadillac CTS-V crop. But naming it the Vsport, rather than just the CTS-V, leaves the door wide open for a more-powerful model down the line.
These cars always fetch big bucks at auction, especially when the money is going towards some noble cause. America has a serious lack of science and engineering majors these days, and GM’s future depends upon being able to hire these people out of college to come work for them. So in a way, this is an investment in GM’s future too.
But that leaves us wondering… what does GM have planned for a Cadillac CTS-V? Will they keep the twin-turbo V6, or drop a big ol’ V8 in there?
