James Weeks, who has always been a car enthusiast, and Janna (his wife) met through the Marine Corps. Quite quickly, Janna became just as obsessed with cars as James. When searching for their first house together, a large garage was on their list of “wants,” and now we see why.
The Rx7
My favorite thing about the RX7 is just it’s raw power, there’s nothing like a sub 3,000 pound car and 700 plus horsepower. -James Weeks
As it sits now, with the procharged LSX, the FD makes roughly 700 horsepower and features BC coilovers, JNC wheels, a 4 point roll cage, an Outlaw big brake kit, LS3 heads, JTR headers, a custom made shifter, a custom ground camshaft, and the TR6060 transmission from the CTS-V. They finished the RX7 a few months back, but since, James has blown the ProCharger and has decided to turbo it and go wide body.
The Miata
Janna currently dailys a 370z and a stock 1993 Mazda Miata LE, but also has an LS-swapped ’92 Miata. The ’92 was passed down from her mother and Janna received it with a blown motor, so the hunt for a stock 1.6 began. During their search, James and Janna came across someone in the process of LS-swapping their Miata, and James says, “I thought it was awesome, but Janna thought it was too much motor for such a little car.”
But, when James pulled the LS6 out of the RX7, Janna couldn’t pass it up, so they said “why not?” After two months, the swap was complete and, now, the Miata is “extremely reliable and a blast to drive,” they say. It sits on BC coilovers and 949 Racing 6ULs, and features M Edition brakes, a Hard Dog roll bar, a custom ground camshaft, and is pushing around 400 horsepower. They plan on changing out the gearing and upgrading the headers next.
James and Janna have spent hours together building their cars and are now known locally for their LS powered vehicles. They both are into autocross and drag racing (and the occasional street race, of course.)
As with every build, they came across issues, but claim the first start always makes it worth it. Next, they are debating on swapping an LSX into Janna’s other Miata–we can’t wait to see what else comes out of this couple’s garage.
“There is no doubt the swaps will continue,” James says.
