Last week, Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) publicly debuted their 2017 range, including multiple limited edition vehicles and the long awaited GTSR W1. The rumors that were spread across the web created expectations that were difficult to beat but Holden, yet again, delivered.
The W1 packs a plethora of high-end details but the best part is its 6.2-liter supercharged LS9 under the hood. Upon its release, Holden noted its hefty price tag and rarity, as only 300 are to be produced, so we already knew it would be quite a challenge for someone to get their hands on one. However, not long after its release, it was announced that the W1 was actually completely sold out before it was even revealed. Tim Jackson, HSV Managing Director, claims there has been over 800 interested buyers but, ultimately, Holden cannot choose who they directly sell to.
Not all hope is lost though– being the great company it is, HSV is holding on to a few W1s itself to raffle off to interested buyers. If chosen, participants will have the rare chance to purchase a GTSR W1 at sticker price.
As you can imagine, an abundance of bidding wars have taken flight at dealerships– but not only for the W1; the limited-edition Commodore Motorsport, Magnum, and Director, have been hotly contested as well. There are reports that over 20 Holden dealers are taking advantage of this demand and are asking up to $10,000 more than the original MSRP. Multiple issues have arose, with some claiming the extra charges are because of a “luxury vehicle tax,” a tax that the Commodore definitely does not fall under.
These beauties are the last of their kind– so would you pay above asking to get your hands on a piece of automotive history? It’s too bad they aren’t headed to American shores because we know a few people that would pay well above asking price to get their hands on one.
