Hot Mess: Watch This C5 Corvette Take On The Sand Dunes

We try and take care of our Corvettes. We wash, wax and clean them regularly. Some folks even cover them when not in use, to keep dust and debris from damaging their car’s surface. Then there are the others – folks who view their cars as mere mechanical things with which to do things. For some, that means driving them daily, no matter the weather and, for a select few, that may even mean taking to the rolling sand dunes to throw some rooster-tails with their C5 Corvette.

Whereas most enthusiasts cringe at the slightest hint of dust on their Corvettes, this guy wears a thick layer with a smile on his face.

We always give plenty of room for an owner to use their car as they see fit, but we’ve even got to wonder what this vlogger was thinking when he made a hard, right-hand turn into the sand dunes near his home. As many “watch this!” moments are apt to do, everything started out relatively tepid, but then as things progressed, the rooster tails got taller and the ruts became deeper. Ultimately, the car wound up resting more on its undercarriage than on its wheels. Of course, the wheels are where the action is, so when they stop working, the C5 turns into a bubbling hot mess.

As the antics get wilder, the car eventually succumbs to the depths of the sand. The car's undercarriage began to get more traction than the car's tires, as evidenced by the freshly-groomed flat spot behind the car's rear bumper.

Unlike so many who find joy (and viewers) in destroying new items such as iPads or cellphones, this auto-equipped 1998 C5 has been well-seasoned with reportedly, over 300,000 miles on the clock. Now, we’re not saying that any vehicle over a certain number of miles is worthy of a severe thrashing, but if you’re going to do something like this, a C5 who’s odometer has ratcheted like a casino slot machine is a strong candidate.

This guy goes so far as to give an innocent bystander a joyride in his C5. He also let his girl do a few laps until she winds up stuck in the shifting sands.

In a world where the OEM’s can’t show a commercial for one of their newest offerings moving under its own power without several lines of lawyer-eze, examples of folks tossing caution to the wind have a toothy appeal to many who would never do likewise. That’s why the bleachers are usually full of spectators during the burnout competitions, but only about a handful actually participates.

The wheels (and various other areas under the car) are filled with sand. The loose bits poured out of the wheels once the car hits the asphalt again.

Ultimately, it comes down to “Your car, your choice.” But we’d rather not have to work on things as much as we did when we were younger. Maybe that’s why the world of YouTube is full of the younger generation. We’ve always felt that we were blessed to have grown up on a time when there wasn’t so much self-incriminating technology all around us. But, at least when these folks get to the age where Tylenol is the most important tool in the shed, they’ll have some killer home movies to look back upon!
