If you’re like us, and you’ve been closely watching the prices of 5th Gen Camaros in hopes of picking a used one up for cheap, you might not want to hold your breath. It looks like the new Camaros will continue to hold their value for a long, long time.
The value assigning experts at Kelley Blue Book just recently named the 2013 Camaro SS as the “Best Resale Value” in the High Performance Car category. Citing its aggressive modern/retro looks and impressive power, the guys at KBB say that the 2013 SS will retain 61.3% of its value 36 months after purchase, and 44.5% after 60 months. The Camaro even beat out its big brother, the Corvette, which came in third in the same category. Even the base model V6 5th Gen grabbed honors as the Best Resale Value in the “Sports Car” class – shoving aside both the Porsche Boxster and the acclaimed new Subaru BRZ.
This is all great news for new car buyers, but somewhat disappointing for budget project car builders. It’s going to be quite a while before you start seeing inexpensive 5th Gen Camaro project car prospects popping up on your local Craigslist or eBay. But hey, at least 4th Gen Camaros and C5 Corvettes are still cheap and plentiful.
