LSX Magazine’s Top Ten LS-Swapped Vehicles Of 2019

Another year has come and gone, and while we’re still not flying around like George Jetson, we did run across some spectacular cars this year. Some of these finds originated from social media while others were found at shows like Street Car Takeover, LS Fest, and even the Good Guys Rod and Custom shows. As always, these killer builds all have one thing in common, an LS/LT power plants. Here are the most popular LS swaps of 2019, according to our readers.

10. Locked and Loaded: Josh Wojciechowski’s LSA-Powered 1969 Ford F100

Josh Wojciechowski’s 1969 Ford F100 was all the rage at LS Fest West in 2019. The LSA-swapped truck wasn’t a trailer queen either. Josh had a good time ripping it up on the autocross course throwing the this beastly Ford in and out of the turns. While we loved the truck, Josh can’t leave it alone and is now making improvements over the winter. The Ford will be lighter and more nimble for 2020.

9. Matt Goins’ Retro Ultra Street Supercharged 1988 Camaro IROC-Z

Matt Goins 1988 IROC is a force to be reckoned with in the Ultra Street class. The car has a host of go-fast goodies from Tick Performance and also houses a monster Vortech supercharger as well. This car is sure the envoy of mullet fans across the good ole USA and for a good reason. It’s rowdy, loud, and super fast.

8. The Red Pig: Josh Stahl’s LS-Powered 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL

We ran across the Red Pig while surfing the pages of Facebook one day, and immediately fell in love with the car. The classic lines of this 1969 Benz combined with a healthy dose of Pro-Touring attitude and performance make for a unique combination. When we heard that the Red Pig was going to debut at the Texas Motor Plex, we knew that we needed to be there and get shots of this epic build. Keep an eye out for this car in 2020 as Josh Stahl prepares to rip up the autocross courses.

7. Ultra Swap: William Tetro’s Turbo LS-Powered Mazda RX-7

We have always been a fan of the FD3S RX7 even before LS-swaps became a thing. The cars are super sexy, light, and nimble. When combined with the power and reliability of an LS, you can’t beat them. William Tetro’s RX7 is a fantastic looking car with performance to match. It’s the perfect balance of speed and style and looks killer with a drag pack.

6. LS3 Powered Saturn Sky Red Line: Obscure Roadster Turned SCCA Champ

We spotted Dana Barlow’s Saturn Sky on the grounds of Las Vegas Motor Speedway while at LS Fest West this year. This car was super clean and well built. When the turbocharged 2.0-liter couldn’t get the job done any more on the road course, Dana and her husband Jade decided to swap it with an LS3. So far, the couple has had a blast with their 540-horsepower combination and enjoys competing on the Optima Ultimate Street Car Challange.

5. 1,200 Horsepower Supercharged LS3-Powered Custom Cobra By CN

Want to know how to make a Ford fan triggered? Take a Cobra replica or any Ford for that matter and install an LS power plant. It’s the perfect formula for not only offending Blue Oval fans but also for epic speed and reliability. While we couldn’t find a lot of information on this Cobra, it still made the top five for 2019.

4. The Middle Finger Approach: Matt Schnicke’s LS-Swapped Toyota Supra

The title says it all for this popular feature. You either love it or hate it, but either way, owner Matt Schnick doesn’t care. This Toyota Supra was built for the sole purpose of “making a great car even better.” The iconic 2JZ inline 6-cylinder was scrapped for a turbocharged 5.3, leaving the import fanboys and girls in disbelief. The Supra ran a best of 8.78-seconds in the 1/4-mile at 154 MPH.

3. The First LS-Swapped 1,500 Horsepower Lamborghini Huracan

The idea of LS-swapping any supercar seems like a costly long process. These cars are expensive, and it just seems like a terrible idea. However, this didn’t stop the guys over at B Is For Build from chasing their dream. Was it expensive? Probably. Was it a bad idea? We don’t think so, but we are all about that LS-swap life. This LS-swapped Lambo pulled in huge numbers at the SEMA show this year as people waited in line to see this rare spectacle.

2. RideTech Equipped C3 Corvette Packs LT4 Power and Tons of Attitude

Out of all of the older Corvettes that we have featured over the years, this C3 Corvette is one of our favorites. This car boasts a killer tire and wheel combo, and unlike our other popular car features, an LT4 power plant. If that’s not enough to get your attention, the fender flares and lowered stance provided by RideTech will. This ‘Vette is a classic example of a vintage car that takes modern technology to a new level.

1. Delivering the Goods: LS Powered USPS Mail Truck With Anger Issues

How could we not have this little jewel in the line-up? We spotted the now-famous LS Postal Truck in the parking lot of our hotel during LS Fest East this year. It’s not only one of our favorites, but it also came in as our number one viewed article for 2019. The little truck turned everyone’s head at the show and continues to do so. David Stacy, the owner of the LS Mail truck, has some big plans for the ex-mail hauler in 2020, which includes an LSA supercharger. We are excited to see this one hit the dragstrip soon.

It was an excellent year for LS, and LT swaps and next year promises to be even better. Be sure and sign up for our newsletter  so you don’t miss any of our coverage in 2020.

From all of our staff at LSX Magazine, Happy New Year!
