Now don’t be fooled by the black steelies, and unassuming looks of this Chevy Caprice; it’s got a secret weapon hiding under the hood. We recently found this blog post over on ProCharger’s website about one Caprice PPV that the perps would have a pretty hard time out running. The featured 2011 PPV is a detective model that made its way into the hands of a civilian named Chris, who immediately started looking for ways to “boost” the 6.0L LS engine’s output. Adding more power to the PPV presented an interesting challenge since the car wasn’t mass produced or even sold for public use, and consequently doesn’t have any aftermarket following.
Luckily though, the PPV is essentially the same car as the Pontiac G8, only with a longer wheel base, meaning that ProCharger’s D-1SC tuner kit for the G8 could be modified to work on the PPV. The guys at Big Power Racing in Long Island, New York, took the PPV and bolted up the D-1SC and a custom set of American Racing headers, and a few other modifications. The result was an impressive 457 rear-wheel-horsepower, which translates to about 571 horsepower at the crank. That’s an overall power gain of more than 60%!
If you saw the video we posted last week on the Caprice PPV at the drag strip, you know that the times were less than stellar. We’re pretty certain that Chris’ PPV would have no problem bettering those times of mid-14’s, don’t you think? Check out ProCharger’s blog for more info on this boosted police interceptor.
