The Yenko badge has been a staple in the performance community for years. Even though these performance muscle cars were ahead of my time, I recall assembling model cars with the legendary 1969 Yenko Camaros as a kid. Outfitted with the L72 427 cubic-inch big-block Chevrolet engines from a Corvette, these cars commanded enthusiasts’ attention with special “Yenko 427” badges, custom stripes, and sYc (Yenko Super Car) stitching on the headrest. The only problem is owning one of these cars; you have to have some seriously deep pockets since only 201 were built in 1969.
In 1982 Don Yenko sold Yenko Chevrolet located in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. And while you would think this would be the end of the line for the Yenko name and its performance vehicles, this was not the case. Fortunately, Specialty Vehicle Engineering, formally SLP, acquired the Yenko name and is still bringing us high-horsepower vehicles like the Yenko Camaro, GMC Syclone, and a host of other high-performance cars and trucks.
The latest to hit the stable for Specialty Vehicle Engineering is their all-new 2021 Yenko/SC Silverado. While a four-door Silverado may not scream performance at first, hear us out. This supercharged 378 cubic-inch powerplant cranks out 800 horsepower and 720 lb-ft of torque using 93-octane pump gas. The engine features a blueprinted LT1 aluminum block, balanced rotating assembly, forged 1538mv Twisted Steel crankshaft, and forged pistons. The long block is topped off with a set of CNC ported LT1 heads and an SVE high-output centrifugal supercharger. Other modifications on the truck include custom stainless steel headers and high-flow catalytic converters.
While the Yenko/SC Silverado does have a lot packed under the hood in the way of performance, it also has some flair on the outside. The truck has sporty “Yenko/SC” side stripes and custom wheels that set this truck apart from the crowd. And when combined with 800HP hood and tailgate badges, competitors will know that this truck is all business.
The Yenko/SC Silverado is available in eight different colors, 2-wheel drive, 4-wheel drive, with a few custom upholstery options. The truck also comes with a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty that will cover the engine and supercharger and the performance heavy-duty automatic transmission.
