UPDATE: After a month “at large,” they finally caught the guy…
We’ve always loved the Pontiac G8. Along with the Solstice, it looked like Pontiac was back on the road to having a proper RWD lineup. Then the Great Recession occurred and the Tin Indian went off to the great scrap heap in the sky.
Dead brand or not, Pontiac’s last gasp left North America speckled with RWD Australian muscle sedans, and they are now common on used car lots. The G8’s performance, coupled with ho-hum styling, is a perfect combo for a getaway car, and some guy in Missouri has leveraged all of the above.
After stealing it from Century Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Westville, Missouri, this particular car has been in at least six (!) chases and the authorities have yet to capture the suspect.
We wonder if the fuzz have been chasing this guy in a Tahoe or FWD Impala, because an LS powered Caprice PPV , a 5.7 Charger, or dual turbo EcoBoost Taurus would definitely be able to keep up. Either that, or this guy is Tazio Nuvolari reincarnated.
As for his true identity, you know the cops don’t have a single clue when they’re soliciting the public’s help.
The stolen 2008 Aussie Poncho has Missouri dealer plates with the number D571JD and the suspect is described as a black male in his 20’s, 5’11”, weighing 160 pounds, with a goatee. Anyone with any information regarding the case is asked to contact Wentzville police.
Anyways, for you mid-west folks, keep your eyes peeled for a black G8 laying down some stink in St. Louis.
