To be honest, we were pretty thrown off when we initially saw this video posted by FullBoost – from the front, this Holden VK Commodore definitely looked like a Fox-body mustang with two extra doors. We’re not saying that in a bad way; it was just a little weird.
Under the pretty mild exterior coated in fresh red paint lies a 2.3L-Magnuson-blown forged LS3 engine that delivers 698 horsepower to the rear tires – not your average VK Commodore, to say the least. The under-hood (bonnet?) view is immaculate, though. With a fully shaved engine bay and a wire tuck, the LS3 engine looks so tiny in there, but so right.
We did learn that this VK Commodore is owned by one of the techs at Magnuson’s Australian division, and damn it’s sleeper, and a smoke machine, too. From the video we can tell that the throttle response with this engine is ridiculous. We’re not sure what gear he was in, but he couldn’t keep it off of the rev limiter.
The fact that the driver threw in a couple of drifts throughout the video was pretty cool as well. The car looks so easy to flick around with those small tires in the rear and generous amount of horsepower – sign us up! One thing we didn’t like too much was the shaky backseat camera. FullBoost, it’s time to invest in some GoPros!
According to the video’s description, the car can run an easy 10-second pass in the quarter-mile naturally aspirated, but we’d love to see a video of it at the strip with the new blower setup – we’ll be on the lookout for one, but for now, enjoy the smoke show.
