With any engine, we’re confident that a Polaris Slingshot is a pretty good thrill ride. And with only 1,750 pounds to move around, you can bet its power-to-weight ratio is well in favor of anyone looking to go fast. Once used in the now-defunct Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky, the Slingshot’s GM 2.4-liter DOHC Ecotec inline-four is standard and its naturally-aspirated output is a fairly respectable 173 horsepower.
But if 2.4 liters is good, then wouldn’t 6.2 be better? Like a lot better? And throw in a little hairdryer boost to go with it? Yeah, we thought so. It would be way better.
With that in mind, enter Alpha Powersport, a bunch of guys at a company in Houlton, Wisconsin that might be eating a little too much cheese for their own good. In all seriousness, though, we’re mighty impressed that they were able to shoehorn a Chevrolet Performance Parts LS3 crate engine between the front wheels of a Slingshot, then add a turbocharger to the mix for a nice added feature.
Alpha Powersports co-owner Andy Roseau explained, “We had been working on this project for a while now and we are excited to have completed it.” Needless to say, we are also excited it has been completed.
Dubbed the Monster 62RR (6.2 liters, race ready) here are its particulars: A standard-issue Chevrolet Performance Parts LS3 crate engine (the most basic of the four LS3 variants available from Chevrolet Performance) produces 430 horsepower. AP added a Precision Turbo, billet ball-bearing 76mm turbocharger, which is part of an AP custom turbo kit, to bring output up to about 750 horsepower. Other supporting pieces here include dual Precision Turbo 46mm wastegates and a PT 60mm blow-off valve.
The Slingshot’s standard five-speed manual is replaced with a Chevrolet Performance 4L65-E automatic to handle the output of the turbo LS3. There is also an AP automatic-shifter system to control the four-speed automatic.
Other pieces in the supporting cast to make this Frankenstein-esque conversion work include, AP custom-fabbed V-8 motor mounts, a pair of AP custom turbo-system exhaust manifolds, an AP 5-inch thick radiator, and an AP front-mounted intercooler. AP also built and utilized billet alternator-relocation bracket and relocated the upgraded radiator.
You can’t do just the engine stuff and skip everything else on a deal like this, so AP didn’t skimp on the underpinnings either. The company added bigger brakes up front with six-piston calipers and 13.8-inch rotors, JRi shocks, and a hydraulic adjustable ride-height suspension.

We also spent a few minutes speaking with Toua Yang who is AP’s Director of Media Relations and he told us that, “orders are coming in on the LS Slingshots, with a few coming from Dubai. There are also two more Slingshots in the shop with naturally-aspirated LS engines, so if a customer wants to have a non-turbocharged version that is also possible.” We’ll take ours with an all-motor LS7, thank you.
