Top Gear USA host and multi-time drift and rallycross champion Tanner Foust will be making a comeback in Formula Drift this year, but he will only be participating in three out of the seven stops the series makes.
Foust will only be running in three events because he’s got a full schedule for 2015 which includes the Global RallyCross Championship, FIA World RallyCross Championship, and the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. There’s only one thing more exciting than Foust’s return, and that’s the car he will be campaigning in the series. We don’t know much about it, and there’s not much information going around about the car right now, but we can tell you that it will be badass.
The car is a new Volkswagen Passat sedan, but if you’re reading this news on LSXMag, then it obviously has to do with LS engines, and that’s exactly what the Passat has under the hood. There’s even a shot of the manifold in the teaser video. We’ve heard that the Passat will be making up to 900 horsepower, but haven’t heard if it will be all-motor or have a forced-induction system of some sort. All we know is that we’re glad Foust is back.
“My competition focus is on winning the Global Rallycross Championship for Volkswagen in 2015 but I’m also excited to be able to get back into drifting,” said Foust, “The fans, the tracks, and the driving in Formula Drift are really something unique in the world of motorsports and I’ve missed being part of it.”
We can’t wait to see what the Passat looks like, and more importantly to see how it performs under LS power!
