According to Entertainment Weekly, Slingshot Global Media is developing a rework of the television show “Route 66” which originally aired from 1960 until 1964. Alongside the two stars, Martin Milner and George Maharis, the show featured a beautiful C1 Chevrolet Corvette convertible.
The two gentlemen traveled the country in their now classic sports car helping folks out all while enjoying the open road. The show featured a host of guest appearances and even helped to jump-start the careers of some well known actors such as: James Caan, Leslie Nielsen, James Coburn, Rod Steiger, and Robert Redford just to name a few.
To some this show really helped bring the fairly new Corvette to the public eye, while many think the love for the Corvette had already sprouted by this time. Even though the television show featured a 1st generation Corvette, the show was was still running when the 2nd generation Corvettes showed up. The C2 was certainly well received by the public and furthered America’s interest in both the show and the Corvette.
While there isn’t much known outside of the studio about the upcoming show, we are hopeful that it will make for some great TV. It will certainly be interesting to see how the plot from 50 years ago is adapted to modern times as well as which actors are selected to replace the original pair.
Most importantly, we’re anxious to see which vehicle they select as a co-star, and hopefully it is another one of America’s sports cars. Perhaps a C7 Stingray convertible, what do you think?
