Germany’s Nürburgring race circuit has become the benchmark for performance vehicles in recent years, with GM taking just about every new prototype to the famed track for testing. No surprise then that the TouriClips YouTube channel recently captured what they describe as a 2016 Cadillac ATS-V prototype lapping the ‘Ring.
Two prototypes, actually – watch closely and you will see there are actually a pair of the swirl-camouflaged sedans circulating on the track. While we aren’t sure what powerplant is under the hood, a good guess is a 425-or-so horsepower twin turbo V6 like the one that powers the CTS Vsport.
First impressions on watching the video? Man, these things are fast… Watch enough Nürburgring videos and you’ll appreciate the difference between the punters in their GTI’s and the really capable cars driven by professionals. The ATS-V looks completely composed and just plain hauls ass, with no drama.
It’s also very cool to see these Caddys get air at the section of the track called the “Flugplatz” – the German word for airport, but literally translated as “flight place.” The name is coincidental, as it was coined thanks to this section’s proximity to a no-longer-existent airstrip, but the ATS-V definitely loses contact with terra firma for a moment cresting this rise. Fortunately, GM already has developed “Flying Car Mode” for the Camaro Z/28, so that the ECU won’t inappropriately cut power when the car is airborne. We’re betting the ATS-V code has that mode programmed in as well…
