Video: 4 LSA Outboards Equals One 2,228 Horsepower Fishing Boat

A while back, we introduced you to Seven Marine, the Wisconsin-based madmen who were turning supercharged LSA engines (the same powerplant found in the Cadillac CTS-V and Camaro ZL1) into some of the world’s most powerful outboard motors. Today, we bring you this video of not one, not two, but four of these 557-horsepower monsters in action. If you’re used to how an outboard “should” sound, this seems more like a 747 taking off.

Sure, you could get a Panacea with Mercury or Yamaha outboards, but that's like buying a V6 Camaro...

12662971675_12abb6702b_kThe boat in the video is an Intrepid 475 Panacea offshore machine, capable of continuous 75 mile per hour speeds while consuming 200 gallons of 89-octane pump gas per hour thanks to the 2,228 horsepower quartet of outboards bolted to the transom.

At that speed, the 47 foot Panacea would run its 550 gallon fuel tanks dry in less than three hours, but then you’d still be able to enjoy the standard 5kW diesel genset powering the boat’s 16,000 BTU air conditioning, and the 130 gallon freshwater tank would let you bask in a long, relaxing soak in the large private head compartment with separate shower while you waited for the Coast Guard to come rescue you.

While the boat is also available with mega-motor outboards from Mercury or Yamaha, clearly the quad Seven Marine setup is the way to go if you want to get someplace in a hurry, as long as that place is no more than 200 miles from the last place you filled the tanks.

Oh, did we mention that if 2,228 horsepower on a pimped-out fishing boat doesn’t seem like enough, Seven Marine has also developed a 627 horsepower version of the LSA outboard? 2,500-plus horsepower should be sufficient to pass everything except a fuel dock…

Seven Marine says that the LED lighting package is optional, but in our opinion it's mandatory.
