While some older folk may be loathe to admit it, the country in continental Europe (in other words, excluding England) that is arguably the most like America is Germany. A technology and manufacturing leader, the Germans have (or at least, had) a vibrant auto industry that is no stranger to big engines and big horsepower. No wonder the Chevy Camaro is a popular import in Deutschland.
Check out this video posted by forum member Blackone on the Camaro5 forums from a recent meet-and-greet in Ulm, Germany, of Camaro owners. And it seems the Germans have a particular fondness for dark colors… and yellow.
Being native English speakers, we can’t translate anything anyone is saying, or the words that occasionally appear on screen. But from what we can gather this was a meet, greet, and cruise night all rolled into one, and more than 20 German Camaros showed up for the event. Save for a handful of outliers though, these German Camaros were mostly painted in either black, dark grey, dark blue, or yellow.
As near as we can see, only a sole white Camaro convertible and a custom orange paint job stuck out from the crowd. No reds. No greens. Not even a silver. Maybe GM doesn’t offer as many colors in Europe as it does in America? Or maybe the German’s penchant for dark humor also belies a desire for dark-tinted cars or, alternatively, something very cheerful and bright?
That is something for a sociologist to figure out. We’re just glad that some Germans love the Camaro as much as we do.
