Ah, yes, one of our favorite automotive forbidden fruits to this day – The Holden HSV GTS. You may remember the article we wrote about it when Steve Sutcliffe compared the Vauxhall VXR8 GTS to the new F10 BMW M5 in his AutoCar web series – it’s virtually the same car, but with different badging, and is still full of awesome.
We first notice the car’s color, which is a very bright tangerine-ish hue, a color GM wouldn’t dare release on an SS in the states. We actually like it because it gives the car more of a sporty presence than it already has. It really is an awesome sight to see a car like this lap a circuit like Goodwood with a smorgasbord of other automobiles, including classic racecars.
At the beginning of the run, we see the rear end squat and the front end lift as the power of the LSA engine propels the car toward the first right turn that leads to the area where all of the fans can see the cars passing by. The HSV takes it with speed, like it was a sport compact car that forgot it was a full-size sedan.
It is truly awesome seeing a large car like this being whipped around turns and hammering straightaways, though it’s something we won’t get to experience here in the states for a good while.
We’ll say it once, and we’ll say it again – GM, please give us an LSA-powered Chevrolet SS for the USA!
