The recent World Challenge race at Miller Motorsports Park, in Tooele, UT, saw the Cadillac team finish in fourth and fifth spots. Johnny O’Connel brought the #3 CTS-V coupe across the line just 1.8 seconds off the final podium spot, while team mate Andy Pilgrim followed just over six seconds later.
When the checkered flag fell, 43 of the original 49 starters were still running, though some were three laps down in the fifty minute race. Pilgrim narrowly escaped damage at the race start, when both he and Randy Pobst stalled at the standing start. Pobst, who was right beside Pilgrim, was hit heavily from behind and knocked out of the race.
O’Connel had started in P6, just ahead of the pair, and missed the carnage. By the end of the second lap, he had moved into fourth and held on there until the end. Pilgrim had fallen as low as 17th overall after his unrefined start. O’Connell matched his season best with the finish, while Pilgrim set a new best finish for the season.
Starting order for the third round in the Pirelli World Challenge series had to fall back on the provisions of SCCA Pro Racing Regulations, as Friday qualifying afternoon had to be cancelled due to a lack of visibility from a passing snow storm.
Thanks to Team Cadillac, you will get a feel for what its like to drive the full course at Miller Motorsports Park. With commentary from both drivers, you’ll also experience the traffic issues that they have to deal with on an ongoing basis. This is not pre-staged PR footage, but the real thing. Enjoy!
