Cadillac is on a roll with new product, but based on current sales figures, something’s missing with the marketing plan. The CTS debuted to rave reviews and praise from gear heads with some saying it’s the 5-Series car BMW should’ve made. Good press for sure, so why are sales down? Check out this YouTube video for Cadillac’s 640 HP response, the brutal new CTS-V with LT4 supercharged motor. If this doesn’t move the sales needle, nothing will.
As we reported earlier, the CTS-V is packed with all the heavy duty hardware needed to get noticed. The hi-po version of Caddy’s mid-sizer comes with the same supercharged, Gen V direct injection motor found in the Z06, slightly detuned to deliver 640 horsepower with 630 pound-feet of torque. Backing this up is the General’s latest paddle shifted, 8-speed 8L90 automatic gearbox.
Sporting a laundry list of performance upgrades, the CTS-V comes with a GM claimed top speed of 200 MPH. Just think of what’s in store for us when the Lingenfelters and Hennesseys of the world get a crack at this car.
In the meantime, the stock version has no trouble smoking its rear tires. Be sure to get a good listen to the V-8 soundtrack as the car roars around some corners and melts its rear tires.
And don’t forget, the CTS-V’s Alpha architecture and supercharged motor will underpin new Camaro as well, so think of this as a sneak peek of Chevy’s new pony car too.
With availability in third quarter of 2015 it looks like the CTS-V will come in around $75-80K price range. With more power and higher tech compared to its German competition, you can bet your ascot it will be best-in-class when it debuts.
