Indy 500 practice is a huge deal for IndyCar, as it is the biggest, most prestigious race of the season. But during any downtime the drivers have, it’s not all serious business.
Sage Karam, a 20 year-old IndyCar driver who races for Chip Ganassi Racing, recently gave his keys to teammate, Tony Kanaan, thinking that he was going to get his car back freshly detailed, and, ohh, was he wrong. After finishing up signing a few autographs at the paddock, Karam hears honking in the background and looks up to find his baby, a brand new Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE, wrapped in the most unmistakable hue of hot pink. If you’re the youngest driver on the team, let alone the whole series, what do you think is going to happen? You’re going to get pranked, for sure.
“I knew I should’ve never given my car to Tony,” Karam shouted after realizing that it was actually his car. Kanaan, Franchitti, and Dixon didn’t leave out any details either. The windshield banner reads “Karamo,” and the banner atop the rear window reads “Honk If You Think I’m Sexy.” The best part about the whole prank is that Karam can’t remove the wrap. “We have some bad news for you bro. The boss, your boss, our boss, Chip Ganassi, or Floyd Ganassi Jr., says you have to drive the car like that until after the Indianapolis 500,” Kanaan and Franchitti explain.
Karam is going to have a good time driving his new, manly, hot pink Camaro, we can feel it. He’s probably going to dread sitting in traffic, listening to all of the honking, though. Good luck in the Indy 500, Sage!
