Drifting is a sport you either like or dislike – we haven’t met any casual drift fans lately. Here in the US, drifting events are typically held on closed courses, with the professional Formula D series competing at tracks like Irwindale Speedway and Road Atlanta, and the inaugural event of 2014 is held on the Streets Of Long Beach in California. 

Over in Poland, they do things a little bit differently, it seems. They use mountain courses, with spectators just inches away from the cars at many points on the track, and Bartosz Stolarski is one of the kings of the Sopot Touge course. Here we get to witness him in all his glory, cranking around turns in his supercharged, LSX-powered Nissan S14A. Stolarski is a member of the STW Drift Team and is based out of Warsaw, Poland, with his machine.

He’s a major player in the sport over there, and despite the fact that the team’s website is in Polish, we were able to figure out that he won the Polish drifting championship in 2007 and finished in the top five of four different events during the 2012 season when this video was shot. 

It’s an insane look at how motorsports are conducted in other countries; the whipsaw sound of the LS engine coming up on boost through the turns is something that must be amazing (and terrifying) to witness up close and personal, with only a couple of stacks of tires separating the overpowered cars from the fans in the stands.

Or, perhaps we’re used to the nanny-state antics that take place at US-based motorsports events, where the fans are far removed from the action lest someone get injured and use their cell phone to dial 1-800-SCUM-LAWYER.

Much like the Isle of Man TT motorcycle race, Polish drifting assaults the senses and heightens the danger to the crowd – but maybe that’s why people flock to these events every single year while American motorsports facilities struggle to put butts in the seats most of the time. One thing’s for sure – Stolarski is a badass, and we thank him for taking his life (and the life of these fans) into his hands to provide us with such insane video.
