For today’s video we travel to Cecil County Dragway in Maryland on opening day to check out Dave Pearson’s Pontiac G8 GT. As you can see from the video the car has undergone a good amount of modifications. Even though she’s quite quick now, it has been a long road to 10-second elapsed times. Before the venture to the current setup, the sedan once went low 12s with bolt-ons, then held the cam-only record with an 11.58-second pass as well.
The current build consists of a D1SC ProCharger and custom grind cam from Race Proven Motorsports along with Kooks long tube headers and a 2800 stall converter. The Roshan Patel tune along with Shane Hinds automatic transmission tuning keep all the components in line beautifully. On just 10 PSI, the car was able to muster 630 RWHP and 500 foot-pounds.
All of that power is transferred to the ground with a 2010 Camaro SS rear and 3.45 gears. The last stop between power and pavement are some beautiful CCW Classics wrapped in the rear by a pair of 295mm wide Hoosier drag radials and matched M&H front runners up front.
As you can see, the first couple of passes go down on a Friday night when the car dials in around 11.00. The next day, however, 10-second passes come easily as the track preparation is stepped up a bit.
Perhaps the best part of this 10-second, 4140 pound monster is that it is very much a streetable car. The pump gas racer managed to pull off its passes down the strip after making an hour drive to the track. Afterwards, Dave even drove it almost 2 hours to work after setting his personal best 10.84-second pass at 129 MPH. Even though this seems to be impressive, you can expect to see the car in the 10.5-second range after meth injection and a bit more boost later this season. This just goes to show you that even though they are gone from showroom floors, Pontiac is very much alive and kickin’!
