This may not be your mother’s station wagon, but on the street your opponents couldn’t tell the difference, which is a wonderful thing. While it may look like an ordinary 60’s grocery getter, this is an LSX turbocharged beast. This 1960 Chevy Wagon is the definition of the word sleeper. Nicknamed the Green Mile, it isn’t even your typical drag car. Aside from also being a wagon, Green Mile is air bagged. Usually bagged cars aren’t drag cars, but the owner John Dodson makes it work. In this video, shot at Redemption No-Prep, it took down a Monte Carlo and a 5th Generation Mustang GT before losing to a fellow LSX in a late model 4th Gen Camaro Z28.
Anything and Everything
John was inspired to build this contraption after a Woody wagon he was working on turned out to be too far gone to finish. Powering this “grandma wagon” is a mighty 6.0L LSX with a 76mm turbo. It’s a do anything and everything vehicle that’s not only drag car but its been autocrossed at Goodguys as well. When John uses the air bags to disguise the wagon as a low rider, people give his ride strange looks and underestimate it on the street, only to be taken down by his spooling 6.0L LSX engine.
Wagon Nostalgia
For years, the station wagon was the typical American family car. It was the car that many of our older readers went on vacation in or were driven to little league practice. They are a part of American history, and it’s great to see this part of American history kept alive by being built as low riders and drag cars. John has given the world an interesting, whimsical combination of being able to hit the pavement and race down the strip.
