Here’s a bit of a wild one: according to MassLive, a man driving a C4 Corvette down Boston Road in Springfield, Massachusetts careened into a utility pole, obliterating the car and sustaining serious injuries. Per witnesses, the driver then plucked himself out of the mangled ‘Vette and made his escape from the scene.
Thanks to the blood trail he left behind, police were able to gather that he climbed the fence into the St. Michael’s Cemetery across the street and then later found him about a mile from the scene of the accident. He was then rushed to the hospital, where he currently resides in critical condition.
There’s no word as to whether the driver was intoxicated, driving without license, or on the run, but given the nature of the whole incident (high-speed accident and critically-wounded driver still fleeing the scene) we suspect something of that nature. However, the truly uncanny thing about this crash is that it made it’s way into overhead power lines.Corvettes are inherently solid cars, so its not often that we see accidents where one quite literally bursts into a mutilated mess of body panels and debris. It’s obvious that the driver was traveling at some ungodly speed down a city road, but to send what looks like the rear fascia so skyward that it’s left dangling from a nearby power line leaves us wondering just how fast that was.
We mourn the loss of another Corvette but hope for a full and rapid recovery of the driver, regardless of whether or not he was abiding the law. Our take away from this is the cliché but nonetheless relevant maxim: respect the Corvette – know your limits.
