There’s plenty of ways to ring in a new year: drinking, watching movies, playing board games, singing, or yes, finally popping the question on the one you love. But how do you celebrate with your brand-new Corvette?
You might think doing burnouts and donuts would suffice, or even a street race if you’re feeling brave enough. If such a feeling strikes you in that moment of impulse and joy, however, you might want to think twice once you see what happened to this 2015 coupe.
Found on IAAI.com, this Torch Red Stingray met its demise not too long after the parties stopped. A forward collision on the passenger side did a number on the front clip, while both the driver and passenger air bags went off inside the cabin.
In a somewhat interesting twist, the Corvette was actually part of the Avis rental fleet in Orlando, Florida. We’ll leave you to make your own conclusions about how it all went down, but suffice it to say, rentals and car accidents aren’t exactly mutually exclusive.
Add in the notion that it may have been commandeered by an under-the-influence driver, and the end result was just a matter of time. After all, a rental is simply that: a rental. It doesn’t get to pick its drivers, and neither does Avis.
Valued at $51,300 when fully repaired, this Vette shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a new owner. The pre-bidding high of $37,525 serves as a reminder of how highly desirable the car still is despite its damage.
The question is, would you want to get in on this Stingray auction? Or is the fear of the unknown too strong to ignore? Give us your two cents in the comments section below.
