Video: A Pair of Z/28 Camaros Duke it Out on the Track

Priced at $75,000 apiece and stripped of any features not related directly to racing or safety, the 2014 Camaro Z/28 is currently GM’s top-of-the-line performance car. Not even the supercharged Camaro ZL1 or Corvette Stingray can match the sheer track-gripping prowess of the new Z/28, a car built with the sole intention of driving to and from track days. As street legal as it may be, the Camaro Z/28 was born and bred to race.

That’s exactly what Car & Driver recently did, taking a pair of Z/28s to Barber Motorsports Park, where the two drivers pushed these street-legal race cars to the edge.

The minute-long video is merely a taste of a longer review to come, though you get a sense of the raw power on display here. With 505 horsepower from the LS7 powerplant under the hood, and a price tag of over $75,000, Car & Driver’s test drivers were entrusted with more than $150,000 and over 1,000 horsepower. Yes, it’s a good job to have, if you can get it.

The real treat this video gives us is the raw, unmuffled sound of the Z/28’s high-flow exhaust, one small part of the racing pedigree that makes this new Camaro so fearsome. From the aerodynamically-awesome “Flowtie” to the media-blasted, super-sticky racing tires, the Z/28 has already raced its way into our oil-pumping hearts.
