Just a few months back in October of last year, the all-new sixth-generation Camaro entered into production at GM’s Grand River plant in Lansing, Michigan.
Many of us including GM themselves had speculated that if the Camaro were to become a huge success like it has in the past, the plant would then open a second production line and create a third shift to meet customer demands. That day has finally come.
The company announced in a press release that over 500 hourly and salaried positions would now become available, bringing the total employee workforce employed at the plant to just over 2,300 persons. Although the brand new production line is planned to begin operation sometime between April and June of this year, GM is already excited to bring on new employees and has begun the hiring process now. “This is the result of the award-winning vehicles Lansing Grand River produces and the confidence GM has in our team to build world-class quality for our customers,” said Lansing regional plant manager Mike Trevorrow during the press release.
UAW local 652 president Mike Green also adds, “This is an exciting time at LGR. We just added the Chevrolet Camaro to our vehicle line up and now we get to expand the UAW-GM family, which will bring the plant to full capacity. What a great way to start the new year!”
On an ending note, it’s exciting to see the all-new LT1 powered Camaro coming off the same production line as the latest Cadillac performance sedans, the ATS, ATS-V, and the soon-to-come CTS-V.
